Earl McDermott, Jr. is a proud born and bred Washingtonian. Growing up in Fairfax Village, he attended Naylor Road Private Elementary, Jefferson Junior High, and Banneker High. He completed his high school career at Ward 5’s very own Dunbar High, in 2005, concentrating in pre-engineering. After graduation, Earl obtained a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina A&T State University. After college, Earl returned to his hometown to work for the District’s Human Resource office, running the office’s ethics program. While he found working for the government impactful, Earl sought a new challenge, and transitioned to the field of construction.
Earl first joined minority-owned Prince Construction Company as an assistant project manager, later serving as project manager on developments at George Washington University, the Multicultural Center, and Unity Healthcare for Mid-Atlantic. In 2018, he joined Blue Skye Construction, another local minority-owned company that shares Earl’s passion for building community. As a Project Engineer, Earl enjoys working on development projects that benefit the city and its residents, such as short-term family housing and health services situated in lower-income communities. Earl supports the mayor’s goal to support and uplift our most vulnerable residents and seeks to continue giving back to the community that has shaped him personally and professionally.
